Lochard Energy is proud to share that the H2RESTORE Feasibility Study report is now published by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
We acknowledge and thank ARENA for dedicating $2 million in funding an 18 month feasibility study to investigate and assess the viability of underground hydrogen storage. The H2RESTORE Feasibility Study, led by Lochard Energy, explored the technical, commercial, environmental, and social feasibility of storing hydrogen in our depleted reservoirs near the Iona Gas Storage Facility in south west Victoria.
Underground hydrogen storage has the potential to enable long duration, renewable energy storage – strengthening system resilience, supporting firming capacity, and helping deliver a more flexible and lower emissions energy future. This feasibility study represents a significant step toward enabling large scale, low cost hydrogen storage to support Australia’s renewable energy transition by providing energy security for the National Electricity Market (NEM) and supplying emerging clean fuel industries.
A huge thank you to ARENA, our research partners including CSIRO, SLB, Worley, Premier Strategy and all stakeholders for their technical expertise and support throughout Lochard’s H2RESTORE feasibility study.
